Dialysus – Life Story :: Underground Sounds
Derek “Dialysus” Simmons is a very talented rapper and actor from Scotch Plains, New Jersey. He has a very inspirational story behind his rap name. At the age of 10 he was diagnosed with a kidney disease. This disease became worse over the years, and in February of 2006 he had to go on dialysis. Dialysis is the process by which uric acid and urea are removed from circulating blood by means of a dialyzer. He was hooked up to a machine 10 hours a day, 7 days a week. Unfortunately his kidneys failed and had to be removed causing him to need a transplant. With much prayer, family, and friend support, he was lucky enough to find a perfect match for his kidney in his father Derek Simmons Sr.
On July 12, 2006 he had a kidney transplant at St. Barnabas Hospital. After 6 other surgeries he was finally released from the hospital on August 26, 2006. After he was released, he wrote a song about his life and his career has taken off from there. Dialysus is formerly the 3X Freestyle Friday Champ on BET’s 106 and Park and competed in The Freestyle Friday March Mayhem Tournament last year. Adding to his legendary Freestyle Rapping track record, Dialysus became the first rapper to be retired into the Freestyle Rap Hall of Fame at The Mixtape Comedy Show (A Talent Showcase Hosted by Anthony Anderson and Royale Watkins) earlier this year after going undefeated as champion for 6 straight months. “106 and Robbery”, the debut mixtape from Dialysus which was released this year is available for download on two of the top mixtape websites www.datpiff.com and www.thatcrack.com.
In addition to his music career, Derek “Dialysus” Simmons has been very hard at work trying to break into the acting scene. Up to this point Derek has starred in two independent films directed by Clarence Williams IV “A Vanity Tale” and “The Next Denzel” and recently had a breakout performance in the popular play “Topdog Underdog” at William Patterson University. He has also appeared on MTV’s “Roomraiders 2.0” and “Silent Library”. Derek “Dialysus” Simmons is managed by World Entertainment Agency.
